Hey y’all! I’m Emily.
I am a portrait photographer based in Austin, Texas.
My Style & Process:
When I take a photo, I use perspective, composition, and my creative eye to frame the mood, personality, and emotion of my subject. Through this approach, I am able to capture fleeting moments in an artistic way so you can always keep and look back on that moment in time. This is what makes each photograph unique and what makes photography so special to me.
Trust between photographer and client is an integral component of a creating beautiful photographs. I want all my clients to trust me fully to capture their story through my lens. I am very receptive to feedback and direct communication, so I can clearly understand your needs and make your vision a reality.
Shooting the photos is only half of the magic of my process. The other half comes from my love of editing. During this step, I use my artistic creativity and extensive knowledge of professional photo retouching to finalize each photograph.
My Background:
In a High School photography class, I learned the principals of photography by learning to shoot on a manual Nikon film camera with Ilford black and white film. It was this class that taught me how to operate a camera, take a perfectly exposed photograph, develop film, and create prints of my photos in the classroom’s dark room. There truly is no greater teach than film. Today, I primarily use a digital camera during my sessions and edit my photos digitally, but my first love will always be black and white film photography.
After High School, I moved to Austin to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography. However, after taking a Business of Photography class one semester, I realized that I wanted to learn more about how to own and operate my own business. With this, I decided to take what I had learned in my photography classes over those two years and change paths to enroll in, attend, and graduate from Texas State where I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing in 2018.
My Home & Hobbies:
I was born and raised in Houston, Texas and have been an Austinite since August 2010 - for over 10 years now! The creative spirit of the city initially drew me here and being surrounded by other creatives pursuing their dreams still inspires me to this day.
When i’m not taking photos, I love spending time with my dog Frankie and cat Madi. I’m a lover of all things self development and try to fit in daily habits that improve my mental health and overall well being. I’m constantly listening to and discovering new music on Spotify. Watching live music is one of my favorite past times (yet another reason I love Austin so.) I also love unwinding by exploring in nature or playing fetch with Frankie at Zilker Park.
In 2019, I found an incredible group of women in Austin who have become some of my closest friends through Between the Covers Book Club. In addition to the community I gained, I also gained an opportunity to become their Creative Director! As the CD, I advise on all things branding and visuals for the book club to tell and uphold the community’s story.
